Comparing The Droid X And The Iphone 4

Posted in Wifi Spots

0

The smartphone industry is one of the fastest growing markets today. New products are constantly released promising superb quality call, innovative multimedia features and reliability of performance. Motorola and Apple are both powerful companies releasing two of the most popular smartphones nowadays; the Droid X and the iPhone 4. But which one makes the best choice?

1. Display

Droid X features a massive 4.3’ widescreen display with a 854 by 480 screen analysis. The iPhone 4 on the other hand has a smaller screen (3.5’) but higher resolution (960 by 640) and better contrast ratio (800:1). Even though some may prefer the larger screen for watching movies and videos, gaming and web browsing, smaller screen means clearer images and more solid pixels. Moreover, the Retina display technology of iPhone 4 promises sharp images and ultra clear texts even when zooming. Additionally, Apple’s IPS technology eliminates blur and vague images at any viewing angle.

2. Processor

Apple’s powerful A4 chip (as in iPad) delivers the ultimate multimedia experience. Allowing users to enjoy innovative apps such as the iMovie video editing software, iBooks, iAds, gyroscope, FaceTime, advanced Mail app, folders, wallpapers, gaming and multitasking, the A4 chip boosts the smartphone experience. Moreover, battery time is increased due to power management increasing battery time up to 7 hours in 3G, 12 hours in 2G and 6 hours for multimedia apps.

But Motorola has not said its last word; even though it was initially planned to use the same processor as most Android phones (the 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon) Motorola chooses to use again the known  Texas Instruments (IT) OMAP chip. But with a crucial upgrade; this time, the TI OMAP chip is clocked at 1GHz making it a prevailing processor.

3. Camera

Here, the winner is by far the Droid X; featuring an 8MP primary camera, autofocus and a dual LED flash, it literally diminishes off the iPhone 4. And that because the iPhone 4 has a less powerful camera (5MP) on the back and only a single LED flash reducing significantly picture and video quality in low light time. Additionally, Droid X has a shutter button minimizing blurred images when trying to actually touch the screen to shoot a picture.

Nevertheless, iPhone 4 is the only one with two cameras; one on the back and a secondary one on the front for video conference.

4. Connectivity

Even though both devices use 3G connection, the Droid X is clearly the winner. And this, mostly due to Verizon as it unquestionably offers higher quality performance and reliability against iPhone 4’s AT&T’S. Droid X acts also as a WiFi hot spot like HTC EVO 4G tethering up to five different devices.

5. Storage

Droid X seems to wins this round too offering an 8GB internal memory and a 16GB microSD card preinstalled. And this only for $ 200. The iPhone 4 on the other hand, gives only a 16GB internal memory for the same amount and without the precious microSD card slot. Additionally, if someone wanted to upgrade the memory capacity, he would have to give $ 100 more to reach iPhone 4’s 32GB maximum storage, but with Droid X, he would have to get a pricier upgrade but boost its storage up to 40GB.

Overall, both devices have their advantages and disadvantages, each one winner on specific sectors. But at the end, you are the final judge. You get to choose what is ideal for you.

How to Access Your Folders From Your Taskbar

This is an easy way to get to the folders on your system without having to open a Windows Explorer Window every time you want to access files. I find it very useful to have this feature as it allows me to access my Folders and Drives immediately and saves me a lot of time.

This works in Windows XP:

Instructions

1

Right Click an empty spot on your Taskbar (Between your Start Button and your System Tray).

2

Click Toolbars.

3

Click New Toolbar.

4

A Small Window will Open that allows you to pick the folder you wish to make a Toolbar. If you want to access your Desktop Without having to minimize all your windows. Just Pick Desktop. If you want to access ONLY your My Documents Folder, Select that. Any folder will work for this.

5

Click OK.

6

The New Tool bar will appear at the bottom of your screen next to your System Tray.

7

If you find this to be not useful, Repeat Steps 1 and 2 and then check click the Toolbar you created that has a check mark next to it. And it will disappear.

How to enjoy the wireless connectivity provided by the iTouch and the iPhone in an airport?

Currently, there two hot products: the Apple iTouch and iPhone. Basically, the iTouch is a very powerful media player combining other applications (games, web browser, office applications …). The iPhone has all those features, plus those of a smartphone to combine a variety of applications. The guidelines below will help you take advantage of these gadgets in an airport.

Instructions

1

When you’re traveling, you no longer need to bring your laptop just to access the Internet unless you require the use of very specific applications. To take advantage of Wi-Fi in an airport, start by turning your iPhone or iTouch.

2

From the main menu, look for the “Configuration”. Under this option, find the button “Wi-Fi” and click it. Then make sure that Wi-Fi is functional.

3

The application of searching networks will enable you to find the closest networks in your area. Nowadays, there are more and more public  Wi-Fi spots that you can use to get access to the Internet.

4

However, in airports, Wi-Fi are usually purchased. You must first pay a fee for access and then build a profile in the network provider, you will then get the password for the network name.

Barcelona Free WiFi

Posted in Wifi Spots

0

Barcelona Free WiFi has been rolled out across the city by the Barcelona Council. The system will have 500 “hot Spots” and the intention is to cover most of Barcelona city, from Barceloneta to Sarria. People will even be able to connect to the free wifi whilst sat on the beach!

This is the latest development from a city which has managed to stay “fresh” ever since it´s reinvention for the 1992 Olympic Games.

Using any type of mobile device from an iphone to a laptop connection is possible to this system. However, as you would expect, there are sites considered inappropriate that you will not be able to connect to. It is also not possible to connect to Messenger systems. The system however has been designed to be very easier to use and it does appear so.

Should people have problems with the system the Barcelona Council has provided a support guide in three languages, Catalan, English and Spanish.

A map system is also available to allow people to check coverage. Indeed, you can even enter a postcode in a search system to confirm your coverage.

Despite the small restriction on messenger systems the offering of free WiFi will be a real help to tourists who want to keep with family and friends whilst they enjoy the many benefits of Barcelona. It will also allow tourists to print off boarding passes for their return journeys, allow them to book hire cars and even to book an apartment in Barcelona. Barcelona is also attracting more and more businesses and this results in more and more business travelers. For these travelers, WiFi is an essential.

Beantown and Wi-Fi: The Five Best Spots for WiMax in Boston

Posted in Wifi Spots

0

For those out on the town in Boston, finding a suitable spot to stop and get some work done has never been easier. Because a large student population means countless cafes and spots with Wi-Fi service, it’s a whole lot easier to get online in Boston than many other New England cities. The only trouble is that when school is in session, things start to get a bit more complicated. After all, countless students who don’t have the money to pay for their own routers mean that wireless networks around the city tend to lag to a veritable crawl. And anyone who needs to get something done won’t find that a very helpful way to connect to the web.

Fortunately, there are other options for Bostonians, students, and visitors alike who need to get online with a quickness. Instead of relying on shoddy campus reception, the various different burrito shops that have Wi-Fi, or roommates to actually pay utilities, there are other ways.

For those who have invested in WiMax, the coverage that lasts for more than just the city, there are a whole lot more options for surfing the web in Beantown. Here are five great spots to get online for those who aren’t beholden to Wi-Fi.

#1 – The Arboretum. Tucked away by Jamaica Plain, a leafy neighborhood to the south, this is the go-to spot once the weather starts to get a bit nice. Managed and run by Harvard, there are plenty of rare plants and flowers to gawk at, and trees to recline under for shade. With vast expanses of grassy knolls and fields, it’s a great spot to bring a picnic, and also a nice spot to write a paper or send an email if you’re not dependent upon Wi-Fi networks.

#2 – JJ Foley’s Fireside Tavern. Also located in Jamaica Plain, this grand old watering hole is the last spot that anyone would think of when it comes to getting online. Wood-paneled walls, a carpet that’s seen better days, and some serious characters for bartenders only make Foley’s shine that much more. The Christmas potluck makes the joint feel like a real-life Cheers, so it makes sense that it’s a welcoming spot for those with laptops who aren’t complete yuppies.

#3 – Armani Cafe. Obviously, this Newbury St. stronghold for the affluent doesn’t mind shiny new Macs being opened, though it’s better to go with WiMax since the Wi-Fi here is lacking. Spend the entire lunch looking bored a whole lot easier by checking email and firing off missives to those in your department at work. An excellent choice for those in Boston only on business, anyone who yearns to return to Europe or New York.

#4 – Any university library. If you can manage to get past the guards without a student ID, here’s a nice and somewhat quiet place to get work done. Chances are that anyone under the age of 30 will be able to do this with ease, and it’s definitely a life-saver on those chilly or snowy winter Boston days.

#5 – The ICA. With a great view of the waterfront and a prime location in the midst of Boston’s latest emerging neighborhood, those looking for a classy vacation experience can’t do any better than to take their WiMax connections down here. After checking out the art, there is even a convenient cafe that makes working on whatever needs to be done that much easier.

How to connect to Wi-Fi?

Wi-Fi or wireless fidelity is can be used to connect a laptop or computer with a wireless network. In many places like in school and colleges this service is free. All you need to know is how to connect to that wireless network using wifi. Here are some steps you can use to connect using your laptop or computer.

Instructions

1

First of all click on the icon of wireless network. It is generally on the taskbar on the right hand side. Then a list of available wireless networks will be shown to you.

2

If you are not able to find out the icon then you can also go to control panel or system settings. Then go to network connection section and right click on wireless network connection and select View available wireless network.

3

If the network you are trying to connect is not in the list then you have to manually add it yourself.

In the wireless network connections section, click on add a network. There you have to enter two things: 1. Network Name- SSID and 2. Password- for example WPA. The network where the access is free, you will not have to enter it. The moment you click on add a new network the SSID and password will automatically show up.

Tips & Warnings

1. You should have a wireless network adapter so that you can connect your laptop or computer using wi-fi.

2. Make sure that your firewall settings and antivirus are up to date.

Also You should try Blue jays coffee, I think they have 2 branches one in amigo terraces hotel which located in City proper and the other branch is located near Universityof San Agustin Gen.luna street.

Also there are small coffee shops around the city offer wifi connection.

Make The Connection On The Road? Its Wi-Fi..

How can you prevent the grim scenario depicted above? One possibility is JiWire’s Wi-Fi Hotspot Helper for Windows XP ($ 24.95 per year; http://www.jiwire.com/hotspot-helper.htm). The device locates nearby Wi-Fi access points by cross-referencing your location against a database—stored offline on your PC—of more than 200,000 verified hotspots. Bonus features are a Wi-Fi mailer, which moves email through blocked hotspots, and enterprise-grade encryption and firewall security. The trial is free, but Vista users are out of luck. If you are a Skype or iPhone user, JiWire also offers a free finder utility without the security and email perks.

If you would rather map out hotspot locations before you leave home, or before leaving your last hotspot, JiWire’s searchable online database can assist. We also like sites such as WiFinder (http://www.wifinder .com), a good place for state-by-state searches; Wi-Fi Free Spot (http://www.wifi freespot.com) or Open WiFi Spots (www .openwifispots.com), each of which are great Web sites for free Wi-Fi locations; and PC Today’s own Wi-Fi hotspot directory (http://www.pctoday.com). Open WiFi Spots offers category guides, such as restaurants, public parks, and municipalities, and interactive mapping of Wi-Fi locations to get you going.

Several major restaurant and retail chains, including McDonald’s (http://www.mcdonalds .com), Borders Books (http://www.borders.com), and Barnes & Noble (http://www.barnesandnoble .com), offer fee-based Wi-Fi. At Panera Bread (http://www.panerabread.com) and hundreds of other cafés and fast-food restaurants, Wi-Fi is free. At Starbucks, a $ 5 Starbucks Card (for which you get $ 5 in purchase value) will soon give you two free hours per day of Internet usage. Companies such as Wayport (http://www.wayport.com) and Boingo (www .boingo.com), which often power the Wi-Fi at hotels, restaurants, and retailers, offer prepaid cards or subscriptions that give you access at any of their locations.

The Friendly Skies Although it’s unlikely you can have your pick of airports, a little planning can help you make the most of the Wi-Fi-friendly ones. Have a layover in Atlanta? Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport tops the Forbes Top 30 Most-Wired Airports report (February 2008), with airport- wide Wi-Fi access via five providers. Heading to Las Vegas, Denver, or Phoenix? Forbes’ No. 1, No. 2, and No. 3 most Wi-Fi-friendly airports, respectively, all offer free hotspot access. If you have a layover in an airport that lacks Wi-Fi, you may be able to get it through your airline. Delta’s Crown Room Clubs and American Airline’s Admirals Clubs, for instance, offer free T-Mobile Wi-Fi; many locations offer day passes for purchase for nonmembers.

If you want to surf wirelessly in the most locations, make sure your hotel offers Wi-Fi. According to JiWire, hotels top the list of hotspot locations, with over 48,000 worldwide. A few years ago, luxury and upscale convention hotels such as the Adam’s Mark Dallas and the Emirates Palace Abu Dhabi led the charge to wireless access, but today you’ll find Wi-Fi in more humble abodes, as well. According to Wi-Fi Free Spot, nearly 50 hotel chains or groups offer Wi-Fi, although not all locations have it. Those that offer free Wi-Fi access in most locations range from the budget-priced (AmeriSuites, Staybridge Suites, La Quinta Inns, Homewood Suites, and others) to higher-end hotels. Some offer lobby and public-area access only; others offer guest room access only; a few offer both.

The laptop craze and WiFi hot spots Asia boasts the computer and insurance industry

Posted in Wifi Spots

The idea that only professionals are capable and can be seen using laptop computers has long been gone. Now we can see younger and younger people owning and using laptop computers mostly for entertainment than actual work. And this so called “laptop craze” has also created another form of trend that has been very profitable for many business owners, particularly coffee shops and fast food stores.

Coffee shops are now installing Wi-Fi signals as part of their service and turning their shops into Wi-Fi hot spots and attracting many more clients than usual who are laptop owners. This business strategy has created a new trend of socializing more many people and they would hang out in cozy coffee shops after a days work and just surf the internet together while sipping hot latte or cappuccino.

And we definitely feel this trend because the number of inquiries about our laptop insurance cover have increased and when we did our survey, we found that the most basic reason they wanted to get insurance for laptop is to have a guarantee that their laptop maybe replaced incase it was stolen or suffered accidental damages.

So from here, we can understand that the typical laptop owner will want to bring his laptop in public places and not just inside the office. Our total and comprehensive laptop insurance UK does cover theft and this is probably one appealing part of our policy that our clients are interested into.

In Asia, coffee shops are being put up with their target market being people who would like to take their after office relaxation sipping coffee and just surfing the internet and as this trend continues we can be very sure that laptop and computer sales will really boast up as people want to really get along with the trend.
